SEO For Pest Control Companies

What Is SEO?

SEO is short for Search Engine Optimization, which is what we call the process of improving a website's online performance. There are MANY different aspects of SEO that have an impact on how successful one may be at increasing a website's visibility and traffic. As with any industry, pest control has it's own 'sweet spot', so to speak, when it comes to Google search rankings.

Keyword Research & Usage

One of the most basic - and important - parts of SEO is keyword research and usage. Every time a person types a word or string of words into a Google search bar, they are using a keyword to find what they are looking for. A single word such as 'Scorpions' would simply be referred to as a keyword. A string of words, such as 'Seal Scorpions Out Of My House' would be considered a long-tail keyword. Both types of keywords are critical components of a well thought out pest control SEO plan. In fact, an entire 'Keyword Family' needs to be utilized in order to do really well in search results. An example of a keyword family would be:

You can take this much further and in a more specific direction should that fit your pest control company's marketing plan. The bottom line is that if you want to make money off of Google search results, you must have an extensive knowledge of the keyword family(s) that best represent what your pest control company does. Without great keyword research you simply cannot have great keyword usage. And without great keyword usage you cannot have a seriously profitable online presence. Pest control keyword research is a specialty of mine and I have several pest websites on page one to prove it.

Optimizing Your Website For Your Keywords

Once you have done the pest control keyword research and developed a plan of attack, it's time to optimize your website for those keywords. There are a number of steps necessary for optimum results:

  • Page Titles
  • Page Descriptions
  • Image Alt tags
  • Link Anchor Text
  • Link Titles
  • Within your content
  • Make use of the long-tail versions of your keywords

Knowing what keywords are important to your pest control business will mean nothing if this step isn't done correctly. For starters, this is how Google knows that you are offering up information about that keyword. On top of that, it's also where the user - your potential customer - discovers that you are the expert about the subject. In other words, you can get rid of their pest problem.

Optimizing As A Local Pest Control Company

If you're located in the Metro Phoenix AZ area, you may not want to drive to New York City NY to get rid of someone's ant problem. That's where the whole 'local' thing comes in to play. I've written an article specifically about 'Local Pest Control Business Optimization, which you can read HERE, but know that's it's a very important part of your SEO strategy.

The website for a pest control company in New York will be optimized differently than one located in Miami FL. Not only are the names of the states, counties and cities different, but some critters will be more prominent in some areas than in others. So optimizing for the search term 'Scorpion Control New York NY' may not render the same results as 'Bed Bug Control New York NY' or 'Scorpion Control Las Vegas NV'. A really well done pest control company website will be optimized for the correct combination of services and areas that work for that particular pest control company.

Other SEO Tips For Pest Control Companies

There are way too many little things to cover in this article, but here are a few of the more basic and important steps that should be taken for great pest control SEO:

  • Images. We are extremely visual creatures and it's been proven over and over again that great images - and videos even more so - resonate with people. The images should be high quality and - you guessed it - optimized for SEO. I use Photoshop to optimize the images for both keywords and site speed.
  • Google maps. Probably every SEO expert agrees that there is at least some benefit gained by embedding the Google map associated with your companies Google Business profile on your website. That applies even if you don't have a physical location that customers can come to.
  • Backlinks. Both internal and external are critical for optimum results.
  • Submit your pest control website for indexing to Google Webmasters.

Conclusion

If you're able to check each item in this article off of your list, you will do better in search results. Does that mean you'll be in the money (on page 1)? Probably not, but it's a start. Of course, if you do it yourself you'll save money. Right?

Think about this: how much revenue would a consistent page 1 ranking for each of the services that you offer add to your business? What is a quality lead - a potential customer actively looking for a solution to a pest problem right now - worth to you? How about 3 or 4 of those each day?

I promise that if you give me a few months to work your SEO, you'll make much more than I'll cost you each month. And the customers will be yours after the initial contact. Up sell them, cross sell them, re-sell them, build relationships with them that last for years. Add it all up - it's worth much more than the few hundred dollars that my pest control SEO package will cost you each month.

In my mind and based on my personal experience, it's a great value. I know that my own pest control company really blossomed once I fired the 'Expert' that wasn't doing anything for us and did it myself. If you think that it is worth exploring, give me a call. There's no obligation to see if working together would be a good fit for both of us. Hope to see you on page one soon:)
